PM Modi’s Visit to Guyana: Key Stop in Three-Nation Tour
PM Modi Visits Guyana: Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Global Diplomacy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Guyana for the final stop of his significant three-nation tour. Invited by Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, PM Modi’s visit aims to bolster bilateral relations and set a strategic direction for cooperation between India and Guyana. The visit, scheduled until November 21, marks an important milestone in strengthening India-Guyana ties.
One of the highlights of PM Modi’s visit to Guyana is his tribute to the Indian diaspora, one of the oldest in the world, with roots spanning over 185 years. Addressing the Guyanese Parliament, PM Modi will emphasize the shared cultural heritage and foster deeper diplomatic and economic ties. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Guyana hosts approximately 320,000 people of Indian origin, making it a crucial link in India’s global diaspora network.
During his stay, PM Modi will also participate in the India-CARICOM Summit, where he will engage with leaders of the Caribbean Community to discuss avenues for regional cooperation, trade, and development.
PM Modi’s visit to Guyana follows his productive engagements in Nigeria and Brazil. In Nigeria, the Prime Minister held talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and interacted with the Indian community. Notably, PM Modi was honored with Nigeria’s highest civilian award, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), his 17th international recognition. This visit marked the first time an Indian Prime Minister visited Nigeria in 17 years, further strengthening India-Africa ties.
From Nigeria, PM Modi traveled to Brazil to attend the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. There, he held bilateral discussions with world leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. At the summit, PM Modi underscored the importance of India’s G20 presidency theme, “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” highlighting its role in tackling global challenges like the food, fuel, and fertilizer crises impacting the Global South.
The G20 Summit also provided a platform for PM Modi to engage in high-level discussions with leaders from Brazil, Italy, Indonesia, Portugal, Norway, Chile, Argentina, Egypt, and South Korea. These bilateral talks focused on enhancing cooperation in defense, security, trade, and technology.
