Congress claims FIR against Rahul Gandhi is a distraction from his protest against Amit Shah
Congress Alleges Political Vendetta Behind FIR Against Rahul Gandhi
Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal has strongly criticized the FIR registered against Rahul Gandhi, calling it a diversionary tactic aimed at silencing his protest against Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on B.R. Ambedkar. This development has stirred significant political debate, with Congress leaders voicing their concerns about what they see as politically motivated actions.
FIR Against Rahul Gandhi: A Political Move?
In a post on X, Venugopal stated, “The FIR against Rahul Gandhi is nothing but a diversionary tactic in response to his staunch protest against the Home Minister. A case against him for defending Babasaheb’s legacy is a badge of honour.” He further highlighted that Rahul Gandhi is already facing 26 FIRs, which he attributed to the BJP’s political vendetta. Despite this, Venugopal asserted that neither Rahul Gandhi nor the Congress party would be deterred in their fight against what he termed as the “casteist RSS-BJP regime.”
Questioning Delhi Police’s Actions
Venugopal also raised questions about the inaction of the Delhi Police regarding FIRs filed by women MPs of the Indian National Congress (INC) against BJP leaders accused of physical assault. “Why has the Delhi Police not acted on the FIRs filed by women MPs of INC against BJP leaders who physically assaulted them?” he asked, adding a layer of accountability to the ongoing discourse.
Background of the FIR
The Delhi Police registered an FIR against Rahul Gandhi on December 19, 2024, citing alleged violence during Parliament sessions. This incident involved cross-complaints from both BJP and Congress members after chaotic scenes unfolded in Parliament. Opposition leaders and members of the BJP-led NDA held parallel protests, which escalated into a heated face-off, marking one of the most tumultuous days in recent parliamentary history.
Congress Stands Firm
Congress leader Manickam Tagore also took to X to defend Rahul Gandhi, saying, “Defending Babasaheb Ambedkar’s legacy is a badge of honour, not a crime. Despite 26 politically motivated FIRs, Rahul ji and the Congress will continue to stand against the casteist RSS-BJP regime.”
A Growing Political Storm
The FIR against Rahul Gandhi adds to the growing list of cases that Congress alleges are part of a deliberate attempt to target its leaders. As the BJP and Congress continue to lock horns over ideological and political differences, this latest episode underscores the escalating tensions between the ruling party and the Opposition.
This ongoing political drama not only highlights the challenges faced by Opposition leaders but also raises questions about the impartiality of legal actions in a polarized political landscape.
